The Jade Emperor was sitting on his throne in the Cloud Palace.
玉皇大帝坐在云宫的宝座上。
A messenger ran into the court.
一个信使跑进了法庭。
"Your Majesty," he said.
“陛下，”他说。
"The Dragon King of the Eastern Sea is here to see you."
“东海龙王来见你了。”
"Let him in," said the emperor.
“让他进来，”皇帝说。
The Dragon King entered and bowed.
龙王走了进来，鞠了一躬。
"Your Majesty, I want to make a complaint.
“陛下，我想投诉。
Sun Wukong came to my palace and demanded I give him a weapon.
孙悟空来到我的宫殿，要求我给他一件武器。
He was very rude."
他非常粗鲁。”
Another messenger came in.
另一个信使进来了。
"The Judge of the Dead would like to speak with you, Your Majesty."
“死者审判官想跟您谈谈，陛下。”
The judge came in and bowed.
法官进来鞠躬。
"A monkey named Sun Wukong crossed out his name in the Directory.
”一只叫孙悟空的猴子在《名录》里把自己的名字划掉了。
I beg you to punish him!"
我求你惩罚他！”
The Jade Emperor rubbed his chin.
玉皇大帝摸了摸下巴。
"Who is this Sun Wukong?
“这个孙悟空是谁？
And how did he become so powerful?"
他是怎么变得如此强大的？”
The emperor's captain stepped forward.
皇帝的队长上前。
"Sun Wukong is the monkey who was born from a rock three hundred years ago.
“孙悟空就是那只三百年前从岩石上出生的猴子。
I don't know how he became so powerful."
我不知道他是怎么变得这么强大的。”
"I remember him," said the Jade Emperor.
“我记得他，”玉皇大帝说。
"I don't care how powerful he is.
“我不管他有多强大。
He is causing too much trouble on Earth.
他在地球上制造了太多的麻烦。
Gather some troops, and go down to the Fruit and Flower Mountain.
召集一些军队，下到果花山。
I want Sun Wukong arrested!"
我要抓孙悟空！”
The spirit of the planet Venus stepped forward.
金星的精神挺身而出。
"Your Majesty," said Venus.
“陛下，”维纳斯说。
"Perhaps we could give Wukong a job here in Heaven."
"也许我们可以在天堂给悟空一份工作."
The Jade Emperor raised his eyebrows.
玉皇大帝挑了挑眉毛。
"Why would we do that?"
“我们为什么要这么做？”
"If he's here, we can keep an eye on him," said Venus.
“如果他在这里，我们可以盯着他，”维纳斯说。
"It will be easy to keep him out of trouble."
“让他远离麻烦会很容易。”
"Very well," said the emperor.
“很好，”皇帝说。
"Invite Wukong to come to live in Heaven.
“请悟空来天堂生活。
He will be in charge of the Royal Peach Garden."
他将负责皇家桃园。”
Wukong was telling his subjects about his adventure in the Land of Darkness.
悟空正在告诉他的臣民他在黑暗之地的冒险。
"After I crossed out my name," he said, "I crossed out all of your names too.
“在我划掉我的名字后，”他说，“我也划掉了你所有的名字。
We will all live forever!"
我们都将永生！”
The monkeys and apes cheered.
猴子和猿猴欢呼起来。
"Hooray for the Monkey King!"
“孙悟空万岁！”
Wukong noticed a spirit standing nearby.
悟空注意到一个幽灵站在附近。
He pulled out his iron bar. "Who are you?"
他抽出铁棍。“你是谁？”
"I am Venus," said the spirit.
“我是维纳斯，”幽灵说。
"I have an invitation from the Jade Emperor.
“我有玉皇大帝的邀请。
He would like you to come to live in Heaven."
他希望你来天堂生活。”
Wukong smiled. "At last he has invited me."
悟空笑道：“他终于邀请我了。”
When Wukong entered the royal court in the Cloud Palace, he didn't bow.
当悟空进入云宫的朝廷时，他没有鞠躬。
"You're supposed to bow before the emperor," whispered Venus.
“你应该向皇帝鞠躬，”维纳斯低声说。
Wukong laughed. "I'm just as powerful as he is.
悟空笑道。“我和他一样强大。
Maybe he should bow before me!"
或许他应该向我鞠躬！”
Everyone but the Jade Emperor gasped.
除了玉皇大帝，所有人都倒吸一口凉气。
Wukong looked at the emperor.
悟空看着皇帝。
"I'm glad you invited me.
“我很高兴你邀请了我。
I guess you finally realized I should be living up here with all of you."
我想你终于意识到我应该和你们一起住在这里。"
"Show some respect," said Venus.
“表现出一些尊重，”维纳斯说。
The Jade Emperor looked at Venus and smiled.
玉皇大帝看着维纳斯笑了笑。
"Wukong is new here.
“悟空是新来的。
He can be excused for not acting the right way."
他行为不当是可以原谅的。"
He looked at Wukong.
他看着悟空。
"I'm putting you in charge of the Royal Peach Garden.
“我让你负责皇家桃园。
You will have a home here in Heaven.
你将在天堂有一个家。
I hope you won't cause any more trouble."
我希望你不要再惹麻烦了。”
"That sounds perfect!" said Wukong.
“听起来很完美！”悟空说。
The next morning a gardener showed Wukong the peach garden.
第二天早上，一个园丁带悟空参观了桃园。
Bright, glowing peaches hung from every branch.
鲜艳发光的桃子挂在每一根树枝上。
"The peaches in this garden are not like peaches on Earth," said the gardener.
“这个花园里的桃子不像地球上的桃子，”园丁说。
"These peaches take thousands of years to become ripe.
“这些桃子需要几千年才能成熟。
Anybody who takes a bite of one will live forever."
谁咬一口，谁就长生不老。”
Each morning Wukong inspected the trees in the garden.
每天早上悟空都会检查花园里的树木。
He took his job very seriously.
他非常认真地对待他的工作。
"These peaches look delicious," Wukong thought one day.
“这些桃子看起来很好吃，”悟空有一天想。
He looked around.
他环顾四周。
None of the gardeners were in sight.
没有一个园丁在眼前。
"Maybe I'll eat one."
“也许我会吃一个。”
