From behind Guanyin, Wukong peeked at Red Boy.
悟空从观音后面偷看红孩儿。
The demon was trapped by the swords, all pointed at his face.
恶魔被剑困住了，所有的剑都指着他的脸。
"Get these swords away from me!" cried the demon.
“把这些剑拿开！”恶魔喊道。
"You must become a Buddhist," said Guanyin.
“你必须成为佛教徒，”观音说。
"Then I'll release you."
“那我就放了你。”
"I promise!" cried Red Boy.
“我保证！”红孩儿喊道。
"I'll do whatever you say!"
“你说什么我就做什么！”
Guanyin recited a spell, and the swords vanished.
观音念了一个咒语，剑消失了。
Red Boy's eyes flashed with anger.
红孩儿眼中闪过一抹愤怒。
"Bodhisattva, watch out!" cried Wukong.
“菩萨，小心！”悟空叫道。
Red Boy charged toward Guanyin.
红孩儿冲向观音。
Wukong jumped in front of him.
悟空跳到他面前。
The monkey was about to strike the demon when Guanyin held up five metal bands.
猴子正要打妖，观音举着五条金属带。
She threw them at Red Boy.
她把它们扔向红孩儿。
Instantly they clamped around his head, wrists, and ankles.
他们立刻夹住了他的头、手腕和脚踝。
"Evil demon!" said Guanyin.
“邪魔！”观音说道。
"How dare you try to attack me!"
“你敢攻击我！”
Unable to move, Red Boy glared at Guanyin.
红孩儿动弹不得，瞪着观音。
Wukong raised his iron bar to strike him.
悟空举起铁棍要打他。
"No, Wukong," said Guanyin. "Don't hurt the demon.
“不，悟空，”观音说。“不要伤害恶魔。
I will take him back to Mount Potalaka to be my student."
我会带他回布塔拉卡山做我的学生。”
"Yes, Bodhisattva," said the monkey.
“是的，菩萨。”猴子说。
Guanyin took the vase down to earth.
观音把花瓶带到了人间。
She recited a spell, and all the water flowed back into the vase.
她念了一个咒语，所有的水都流回了花瓶里。
She then led Red Boy toward the south.
然后她带着红孩儿向南走去。
Wukong went into Red Boy's cave and freed the Tang Monk.
悟空走进红孩儿的洞穴，解救了唐僧。
Then he found Bajie and freed him.
然后他找到了八戒，把他放了出来。
The three of them went down the mountain and found Wujing.
三人下山，找到了吴京。
The group continued west.

They traveled for weeks and then months.

One day they came to a wide river.

"I can't believe we have to cross another river," muttered Bajie.

"There are many rivers between here and the west," said Wukong.

"We'll have to cross them all."
“我们必须把它们都穿过。”
"How will we cross this one?" asked the Tang Monk.

A small canoe came into view.
一艘小独木舟映入眼帘。
A man paddled it toward the travelers.
一个人把它划向旅行者。
As the man paddled, he stared at the Tang Monk.
男子一边划水，一边盯着唐僧。
"Greetings!" called the man as he came closer.
“你好！”男人走近时喊道。
"Do you all need a ride across the river?"
“你们都需要搭车过河吗？”
"Yes," said the Tang Monk.
“是的。”唐僧说。
"We were just wondering how we would get across.
“我们只是想知道如何通过。
We're going to the west to get scriptures from Buddha."
我们要去西方拜佛取经。”
"You must be the Tang Monk!" said the man brightly.
“你一定是唐僧！”那人爽朗地说。
"I've heard you would pass through this area eventually."
“听说你最终会经过这片区域。”
"Really?" asked the Tang Monk.
“真的？”唐僧问道。
"Yes," said the man with a smile. "You're famous."
“是的，”男人笑着说。“你很出名。”
He glanced down at his canoe.
他低头看了一眼他的独木舟。
"I would be happy to take you all across.
“我很乐意带你过去。
But as you can see, my canoe is not very big.
但如你所见，我的独木舟不是很大。
I can take only two passengers at a time."
我一次只能带两个乘客。”
As the man talked, Wukong watched him carefully.

Something about the man didn't look quite right.

The monkey was about to say something when Bajie stepped forward.
猴子刚要说什么，八姐上前一步。
"The Tang Monk and I will go first," said the pig.
“我和唐僧先走。”猪说。
Wukong hesitated. "Master, I don't think this is a good idea."
悟空犹豫了一下。“师父，我觉得这不是个好主意。”
The Tang Monk frowned.
唐僧皱眉。
"You never trust people, Wukong.
“悟空，你从来都不相信别人。
This kind man is willing to help us cross the river."
这位好心人愿意帮助我们过河。”
The monkey bit his lip as the monk and Bajie climbed into the canoe.
猴子咬着嘴唇，和尚和八戒爬上独木舟。
They sat down, and the man paddled away from shore.
他们坐下来，那个人划船离开了海岸。
Wukong watched the canoe glide across the river.
悟空看着独木舟滑过河流。
When it was about halfway across, Wukong noticed something.

"Am I imagining things, or is the canoe sinking?" asked the monkey.
猴子问：“是我在胡思乱想，还是独木舟在下沉？”
Wujing looked. "You're not imagining things," he said.
吴京看了看。“你不是在想象事情，”他说。
"It is sinking!"
“沉了！”
The two of them watched as the canoe slipped under the surface of the water.
两人看着独木舟在水面下滑行。
Wukong stamped his foot.
悟空跺了跺脚。
"That man kidnapped Master and Bajie!
“那个人绑架了师父和八戒！
I knew he looked suspicious!"
我就知道他很可疑！”
